Perth & Kinross Branch

Archived News

The website has been going for over a year now and so we've decided to have an archive page so you can see the highs of the past. Rather than us forgetting about them - let's celebrate!
  • Volunteers' Street Market

The branch took part in the PKAVS volunteers' street market at the beginning of June 2009. With the help of volunteers our stall provided information about the branch and how we support people affected with MS. We also provided a small sample of cake & candy and raised a total of £170.22 through sales and donations. We have a photograph of the stall on the day on our Photogallery page.
  • Scottish Walks - A Special Update

We were delighted to receive a cheque for £111 from Douglas Mair of Kinross in 2008. Douglas, who was then aged 9, and a pupil at Kinross Primary School and took part in the Great Wee Scottish Walk, in Perth, during the Summer. Douglas also likes playing musical instruments, meeting friends and swimming. He chose the MS Society as its close to his family and affects a lot of people. A huge thank you to Douglas!

    Quiz Night

The quiz at the Moncrieffe Arms Hotel on 18th November 2008 was a great success. A packed room wrestled with questions posed by Jim Masson of the Evening Telegraph A fantastic total of £350 was raised including £55 which was raised through the rafle of a Highland Cow donated by Alyce Thomson and won by Leigh-Anne Leishman. All the participants had a great night and so many said that we should do it again.

Our thanks go to Alison Cummings who organised it (and so soon after her tea party), to the Moncrieffe Arms, to all the donors of raffle prizes and to those who came along to enjoy the night.

    Charity Shop

The charity shop, in Coupar Angus in May 2008  made a profit of £1,055 due to the hard work of Cynthia, Rosie and the rest of the "Girls", and the generosity of the many supporters who donated items and also made purchases. Peter Sloan (our secretary, Cynthia's husband)  organised this on our behalf. Our Patron, Elizabeth Quigley accepted the cheque on behalf of the branch on 15th June.

Information Roadshows in Crieff, Alyth & Blairgowrie

We started our Information Roadshows in Crieff in April 2008, arrived in Alyth in May and set up shop one evening in September at Blairgowrie. Attendance was good throughout and members of the committee got to meet people who are affected by MS who may not always be able to get in to Perth.

For details of the Kinross roadshow please return to the main news page. The programme is rolling out with plans for Pitlochry in the pipeline. We have a picture of those who attended the Blairgowrie event on our Photogallery page.

    MS Space

MS Space took place on Saturday 8th November at Perth Concert Hall. The conference was chaired by our Patron Elizabeth Quigley and included presentations of the impact of genetics (by Professor Ebers of Oxford University) and on work progressing towards a cure for MS (by Professor Chris Linnington of Glasgow University). In addition there was entertainment from a Samba band, complimentary therapy sessions and another chance to see Elizabeth's excellent documentary "Scotland's Hidden Epidemic - The Truth About MS". Outing to Kenmore

The outing to Kenmore took place on Saturday 23rd August. The weather stayed fine, and everyone enjoyed themselves on a lovely trip to Kenmore. Click here for a photograph of some of our members enjoying lunch at Kenmore.

BBC Documentary on MS - with Patron Elizabeth Quigley

The documentary that Elizabeth Quigley spoke about at the AGM was shown on BBC1 on Wednesday 23rd July 2008. Elizabeth said that one of the reasons she wanted to do this was because Scotland has the highest incidence in the World and she discussed this and innovations in the search for a cure, in the programme.

    Here's looking at you!
