I am nearly 50 years old and I trained as a nurse in Poole in Dorset. I moved up to Dunoon on the West Coast in 1981 having worked with babies from birth to a year old for three years. I then worked at Dunoon hospital for eleven years and when I was here my sister was diagnosed with MS. I read much of the literature around at that time but was unable to do a lot due to other commitments.
I was medically retired in 1993 and my husband and I moved to Wick in Caithness. I contacted the local branch to see if I could help in any way. Mary (now my good friend) was just setting up a therapy group with physiotherapy and aromatherapy. I became involved and eventually ran the group. I was also the branch treasurer.
In 2000 my husband and I moved to Perth. Once settled, I contacted the branch here and was asked if I could set up a similar therapy group to the one I had set up in Wick. but providing information on MS as well.
We started our group in Perth in June 2003and it has gone from strength to strength. This of course would not be possible without our great therapists, helpers and yourselvesfor coming and giving your support. I hope to be able to continue with this group for many years to come.
Apart from what I do with the therapy group, I am also the Branch Support Co-ordinator.
